Here is another great story by one of our clients about how they are using DataPoint. Let’s explore how how the American Association of Physicists in Medicine uses DataPoint for donor recognition at their events.

A bit thank-you  to Michael Woodward, Deputy Executive Director AAPM for sharing their story with us. Here is Michael’s experience in his own words.

Organization Brief

The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) is a leading organization dedicated to the advancement of medical physics. Its mission is to improve health through the application of physics in medicine and biology, ensuring the highest quality in patient care. AAPM promotes research, education, and the professional practice of medical physics, striving to foster innovation and uphold high standards within the field.

Operating within the healthcare sector, AAPM focuses on areas such as radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, and radiation protection. The organization collaborates with hospitals, academic institutions, research centers, and regulatory bodies to enhance medical practices through physics, ultimately aiming to improve patient outcomes and advance medical technology.

Donor Recognition Challenges Before DataPoint

We needed a way to thank those who have donated to the AAPM Education and Research Fund, but our original implementation of a scrolling list of names was not terribly interesting. We wanted to be able to make the names large, have some kind of moving background with a color scheme that matched each meeting where this would be displayed.

Choosing DataPoint

I searched for a way to do a kind of Word merge in PowerPoint but the solutions were messy.  A Google search turned up Datapoint which had a lot of connectivity options which I found very flexible.

Current Usage for Donor Recognition

We have a PowerPoint slide that says “AAPM would like to thank” with a Datapoint text box below.  We use a custom query to reach out to our database and pull donor names and levels. We use a short movie as a background.  We then have a choice whether we show it live with updated data each time the presentation completes, or to use Datapoint’s snapshot feature to generate a PowerPoint slide for each donor that we can then export to a mp4 movie which can be shown on a monitor on repeat.

Training Experience

Learning curve was minimal with help screens popping up with each button you push (until you check the dismiss box).

Key Features and Benefits

I find this invaluable to elevate our presentation, to make this seem more like signage than a PowerPoint presentation.
The ability to get data into Datapoint in virtually any format makes it easy and gives us a lot of options.

Resolving Challenges

We have used Datapoint since 2016 to liven up our thank you so our donors feel like more than a list of names.

Favorite Aspect of DataPoint

The ability to use almost any data format to feed the presentation.  We have been at shows where we could not get our vpn to tunnel through the show wifi and in this case, we were able to use excel files to feed the show instead.

Recommendation

I would recommend DataPoint to anyone who is looking to do easy signage with a lot of flexible data options.
